Course Description
Students will acquire recent advanced knowledge on the concept of risk in health care, on mirror image of risk-quality of health services. Basic concepts will be explained, e.g. quality with its fundamental components (result, satisfaction, costs), safety and its components (event, trend), methods of risk measurement in treatment, risk factor control measures. Students will gain insight into three basic risk types (medical, legal, cost risk), and apply the acquired knowledge to risk control in different models of healthcare subsystems (situations).Definition of risk (mathematical and statistical); risk in medicine; concept and definition of safety; quality – definition, measurement and quality evaluation methods; basic tools for quality measurement – signal and trend analysis, sentinel event, root cause analysis; medical outcome measurement as the basis for risk assessment; medical risk – classification and control mechanisms; legal risk – healthcare systems in the legal framework; cost risk – cost control methods; international quality systems in risk control; informatics in health risk management; international associations and on-line education; EU experience and standards.
